Abstract
As an institutional the library is an essential element in a trilogy investment in public services aimed at intellectual enrichment. Its partners include the art gallery and museum; all three are undergoing cultural transformation. There are three perspective which will fashion the library of the future: Library as access to learning, library as community focus, and library as an adjunct to cultural tourism, just as the modern art gallery has become an object of cultural value irrespective of the collection it contains. The Jakarta Central Library project is one of a few good solutions for Jakarta’s lack of non-commercial public space that able to cement together communities of all types. In spite of being public space and community nurturer it is hoped that the library project able to be one of Jakarta’s cultural tourist destination aside from the many already existing shopping and entertainment spots.
