Kondisi ekomoni yang terus berkembang menghasilkan banyak terselenggaranya aktivitas ekonomi. Kondisi ini membutuhkan convention centre sebagai wadah untuk kegiatan yang melibatkan banyak jumlah pengunjung tersebut. Convention centre dengan tuntutan fungsi yang tinggi membutuhkan pemilihan material dan konstruksi yang tepat untuk mendapatkan ruang bentang lebar. Material baja cenderung digunakan untuk menjawab tantangan ini karena performa struktur dan fabrikasinya yang efektif. Keputusan pemilihan material konvensional ini menimbulkan ekspresi arsitektur yang generik padahal penyelesaian arsitektur dengan material lain sudah pernah dilakukan dan menghasilkan ekspresi yang unik. Desain convention centre juga cenderung menomorduakan ruang publik yang menyebabkan pengalaman ruang yang monoton sementara convention centre belakangan ini harus dapat merespon pada kebutuhan market yang meluas. Perancangan ini berupaya menghasilkan desain convention centre yang mengintegrasikan ruang publik dan menerapkan konsep transparansi dengan material lightweight kayu dan plastik. Tujuan perancangan ini adalah untuk menghasilkan ekspresi arsitektur yang unik dengan mengkombinasikan konsep transparansi, estetika struktural dan integrasi ruang publik dengan material kayu dan plastik. Metode penelitian menggunakan studi literatur dan preseden untuk menemukan kriteria desain ekspresi arsitektur convention centre. Site terletak di masterplan Sedayu Indo City di PIK 2. Analisis terhadap program dan user digunakan sebagai acuan untuk mengeksplorasi desain convention centre. Metode perancangan memanfaatkan properti dan transparansi material lightweight secara penuh, sehingga bersama dengan struktur dan konstruksi yang diekspos, dapat menciptakan ekspresi arsitektural dan visual yang unik. Ruang publik didesain dan ditempatkan di area foyer sebagai objek instalasi, sehingga selain karena berfungsi sebagai tempat untuk beristirahat dari kesibukan bangunan, ruang ini juga menawarkan pengalaman ruang yang menarik dari bentuknya. Pemanfaatan material lightweight kayu dan plastik tidak lepas dari perhatian yang memumpuni mengenai tektonika. Detail terhadap sambungan dan modulasi dapat membantu kedua material tersebut mencapai performanya untuk menghasilkan tektonika yang ringan, transparan, dan unik. / The thriving economical growth results in the expanding of economical activites around the community. This situation asks for a convention cetnre as the solution to held such activity that involves numerous audiences. Convention centre as a public building needs to be highly functional and effective in its material to achieve a wide span of space. Until now, steel is currently the most poularly used material to that for it’s structural capabilities and effective fabrication. The abundant usage of this material results in conventional architectural expression, whereas many similar building typology excel more in its beauty that is achieved with many other material alternatives. The design of convention centre also tends to set aside the importance of public space, which if we put more effort and love to it, could results in an unique space and human experiences. This project is aimed to produce a convention centre design that integrates a beautifully designed public space, and to generate a transparency aesthetic using wood and plastic as lightweight materials. The research method uses literature study and precedents to find the criteria of designing a convention centre expression. The site is located at the masterplan of Sedayu Indo City PIK 2. Analitical study is conducted both to the programmatic requirements and the users as the base to start exploring design possibilites. The design method compromises the transparency properties of lightweight thoroughly, so together with the exposed construction, could produce an unique and visually attractive architectural expression. The public space is integrated with the main foyer area, so not only could it afford to serve its functions, but also could offer the users of the building a distinct space experiences. Attentions to details and tectonics help wood and plastic as the lightweight materials to reach its peak potential for its lightweight nature and transparency.
