Abstract
"/" Privately Owned Public Space or POPS became known in 1960 in New York,
United States. POPS is an effort to overcome the problem of the lack of public
space by involving the private sector, where they are encouraged to create spaces
that are accessible to the public. Many public spaces in the city of Jakarta
generally have similar characters and functions, and do not have a specific theme.
Not a few are abandoned because of the lack of regular maintenance. The
presence of thematic POPS can be an alternative public space that has special
functions and goals for the community.
This study aims to formulate criteria for a POPS with the theme of recreational
education, as an alternative exploration effort for learning methods that tend to
still use formal methods. Through an educational approach that is recreational in
nature, children are encouraged to undergo a different learning process and help
their motor development.
The result of this research is a POPS that is integrated in a mixed-use function in
the Pantai Indah Kapuk area, North Jakarta. This POPS facility will take
advantage of existing commercial programs and activities around the area to fill
and liven up open spaces specially designed for recreational educational
activities.
